Update on Aura Music Academy
It was great to catch up with Bethany Crockett, Principal of the Aura Music Academy on Lloyd Street in Altrincham recently. Since the Academy opened a few months ago, Bethany has developed an amazing programme and given people of all ages the opportunity to learn more about music.
Not content with staying in the studios, Beth has been running workshops in schools in Cheshire and Trafford to introduce children to unusual instruments, like the harp. She has also established the Aura Foundation which provides lessons free for children in underprivileged areas. Watch out for local fundraising concerts and buskers around Altrincham!
Instruments can be very expensive of course and Beth has arranged a scheme for customers to hire instruments for about £10 to £15 a month. She reckons she can source any instrument! She currently has three people learning the clarsach, a triangular harp traditional to Brittany, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The oboe is also becoming popular.
Musicians are also able to hire a room in which to practise on hired instruments. Pianos and drum sets are popular - great for drummers whose family are reluctant to listen to their practise sessions! The 7.30pm until 8pm slot is a popular one.
One of Beths’s other innovations is the fantastic Early Bird Piano Offer. A tuition session with Beth will cost £12.50 for 30 minutes if it takes place before 3.30pm from Tuesday to Friday.
Over half term Beth is running two 'Little Maestros' Half-Term holiday fun sessions at The Hub on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th Feb, 10-12pm. Beth explains;
"We'll being doing lots of different and fun things such as a junk instrument orchestra, song writing and lots of rhythm and pitch games. The sessions are for primary aged children, and can be any ability - they don't have to know how to play an instrument to come along.”
Later in the month the Little Learner sessions will be starting. These are 1:1 or 2:1 relaxed lessons for 3/4/5 year olds. Here's Beth’s description:
“Our Little Learners lessons are perfect for the budding musician who has out-grown baby music classes but isn’t quite ready for formal 1:1 music lessons. These lessons are designed to teach your child musical pitch and rhythm through fun games, stories and songs. Our Little Learners lessons are 30 minutes long, and can be taken individually or within a group of 2-3. As a special offer to celebrate the start of these special classes, we are offering the first session FREE for all potential Little Learners! The classes will run from Tuesday-Friday, and slots are available between 1pm-3.30pm.”
