Networking for Parents

ParentPreneur Networking - supportive local networking meetings designed to fit around your life and your family

Florence Roberts , Altrincham based founder of ParentPreneur Networking, is a woman who loves a challenge. Having enjoyed a successful corporate career, Florence found that the birth of her first child changed her ideas about life and the way that she wanted to lead it. Like many parents, Florence began to find the corporate world less satisfying. Another meeting for meeting’s sake couldn’t compete with being with her baby daughter and Florence took the brave step of leaving her career and full time income. A baby boy followed and, looking for a role that would allow her to work around the children, she developed an innovative home based business putting maps into shapes and framing them for gifts and personal keepsakes.

Florence developed Map My World mainly through social media and word of mouth. However, she found that she missed the opportunity to share ideas and wanted to connect with other small business owners. Florence searched in vain for networking events that fitted in with her family commitments and that were supportive to fledgling businesses like her own.  Eventually, she decided to establish a network of her own and ParentPreneur Networking was born.

ParentPreneur is primarily for local parents with their own business or thinking of starting their own business.  Creating an open and warm environment where parents come together to share stories, ideas and experiences face to face.  There is no dress code, no name badges and no judging on handshakes.   The true essence of the events is down to the people who attend, connecting through their story, inspiring and motivating each other.  This is when, Florence says, incredible things happen.

The monthly networking events feature inspirational and informative speakers:  people who have been there and done it. The October meeting enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Little Belters – fresh from the Dragon’s Den!  The sessions are timed to give people the best chance of attending – after school drop off and before pick up.  Great news for those of us who have had to slide out of meetings half way through to pick up our kids!

The October meeting of the Altrincham and Hale network

So Altrincham attended an event in October which was held at Carluccios in Hale and found it to be most supportive and relaxed networking event ever. It was fascinating to hear about the range of businesses being developed in the area from hats to social care plus! Attendees were at various stages of business development and levels of self-confidence. The non-judgemental and non -competitive nature of the event allowed people to be themselves and several admitted to being nervous about talking to the group. This is something that so many of us experience but are often embarrassed to admit. Getting over this hurdle is a big step towards confidence in our abilities and ParentPreneurs provides a great opportunity to do this.

ParentPreneur also hosts a series of fantastic Masterclasses. In November there was a presentation from social media marketing guru David Trott of Impact Business Advisers. In January, there will be a Masterclass on Managing Finance for Small Businesses.  The Masterclasses are a cost and time effective way to help ParentPreneurs with business functions that can often be left to chance, but are vital to the success and growth of the business.

As ParentPreneur stands today, 1000’s of parents are connecting across the UK, with events across Greater Manchester and Cheshire as well as spanning from Aberdeen to Guildford.  With new local groups popping up each month, ParentPreneur recruit and support Area Directors to plan, shape and host events.  The ever-growing team of Area directors facilitate connecting, giving confidence and motivate parents to fulfil their dreams creating an open and friendly environment for this to work.

The next meeting of the Hale and Altrincham Group will be on the 22nd November from 9.30 until 11.30 at Carluccio’s in Hale. For further details visit the website
