Social Sugar Networking Launch Party

A sweeter type of networking has landed in Altrincham

'Social Sugar Networking' and Sugar Junction Altrincham were a sweet match on Thursday evening (23rd February) for this new networking group’s launch party.

Storm Doris was calming down outside but inside was a lively gathering of about fifty representatives of the local business scene. I can’t list them all but it was great to see Sarah from Our Altrincham; Steve from altpace; Rob from Broadcast Television; Leah from Travel Counsellors; John from nettl of Altrincham; Liz from Clean Up Your Clutter; Mark from Business Solutions; Catherine from Runway Pilates; Kirsty from Arbonne; Annabel from IntroNW and Jason, chef extraordinaire. This being Sugar Junction delicious cocktails were on offer and some cake, I believe, although that disappeared very quickly I must say.

Everyone took the opportunity to circulate and chat before the guest speaker, Susan Dolan, took the floor. If you have never met Susan she will be the one with the funky hair do. Don’t let the interesting exterior fool you – this woman knows her stuff. She is a Google Expert which means that even Google is impressed by her knowledge of SEO.

Susan was living and working in Seattle in 1999 where she witnessed the explosion of the World Wide Web and the birth of Google. She participated in the initial seminars and lectures given by Sergey Brin, Larry Page, Eric Schmidt of Google and Marissa Mayer at Stanford University.

Since then Susan’s grasp of Google algorithms and her ability to communicate her knowledge have taken her around the world to speaking engagements and business conferences. This international career means she can say things like ‘When I was living in Montenegro …. ‘. Google it. She’s a good egg, though, and she dealt with hecklers, sorry, questions, with spirit.

After Susan’s talk there were a number of two minute slots for members of the group to promote their business and then further opportunities to mingle and swap cards. All in all it was a great evening with a relaxed vibe and by the time people started making for the door it was nearly nine.  Lara Kroll of Social Sugar Networking is planning monthly meetings and she already has the next two dates and speakers lined up as follows;

30th March - Healthy mind, healthy business (Guest speaker Catherine Hebb, Runway Pilates)

27th April - Business growth and Finance (Guest speaker Janine Jesse, Santander Business Banking)
