Guerilla Gardeners create a dream garden in Bowdon
You may remember that Hale based garden specialists ‘I Want Trees’ recently offered a complete guerrilla garden makeover to a deserving cause. The winner has been revealed as Elizabeth Hardy from Bowdon who has now had her garden transformed into an idyllic haven.
Elizabeth, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis in 2014, was entered into the competition by her sister Pauline Hall.
Elizabeth said: "I have always loved my garden however, I can no longer tend to it. My sister Pauline has made it as nice as she could for me. She was the one who entered me into the competition and it was a fantastic surprise when I found out I'd won. I have always wanted an established garden that isn't overlooked and that is exactly what I now have. It is absolutely gorgeous with lots of colour and evergreen so I am sure it will look as fabulous all year round. The team worked unbelievably hard. I am completely overwhelmed by the transformation and so grateful to my sister and I Want Trees."
Elizabeth was forced to give up her career working with children as her condition worsened, and Pauline hoped transforming the garden into a serene haven would have a huge impact on her sister's life.
Elizabeth's garden was picked from a shortlist of entries from across the borough that included schools, public spaces and residential gardens.
I Want Trees' Jessica Rowlands, Sales Manager and Guerrilla Garden judge, said: "Elizabeth is a very worthy winner of the competition. Her sister Pauline has done her best to create a place for Elizabeth to relax but we felt we could create a truly beautiful space for Elizabeth to enjoy and unwind in."
The makeover included some instant hedges and mature trees to give Elizabeth increased privacy as well as evergreen plants to ensure the garden looks luscious throughout the winter months.
